Salah-Eddin Al-Batran
German oncologist who led FLOT4, the trial that made the FLOT chemotherapy regimen the standard before and after surgery for stomach and oesophago-gastric junction cancer.
Overview
Salah-Eddin Al-Batran directs the Institute of Clinical Cancer Research at Krankenhaus Nordwest in Frankfurt and led the German AIO group's FLOT4 trial. Its 2019 Lancet report, of which he was first author, showed that perioperative fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin and docetaxel (FLOT) lengthened survival compared with ECF or ECX in resectable gastric or gastro-oesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, replacing the older regimen across Europe.
