Susan G. Komen

Susan G. Komen is the best-known breast cancer charity, a major funder of research and a large provider of patient navigation and financial assistance, with a patient-driven research registry that shares data for metastatic breast cancer research.

Founded 1982. Beyond awareness (the pink ribbon), Komen funds research including early support for HER2-directed therapy and metastatic breast cancer studies, runs the Breast Care Helpline and Treatment Assistance Program, the Komen Tissue Bank at IU Simon (normal breast tissue), ShareForCures (patient-consented data and biospecimens), and advocates on stage IV disease, disparities (Stand for H.E.R. for Black women) and coverage of diagnostic imaging. Other key groups: Breast Cancer Research Foundation (research funding), Living Beyond Breast Cancer, METAvivor (metastatic research), Young Survival Coalition.
