Bellicum was a Houston cell-therapy company known for its rimiducid safety switch, which let doctors switch off infused T cells; its lead product for transplant failed to reach approval and the company wound down.
Overview
Bellicum Pharmaceuticals, founded in 2004 in Houston, built cell therapies around an inducible caspase-9 safety switch triggered by the small molecule rimiducid. Its lead product rivogenlecleucel (BPX-501), donor T cells given after haploidentical stem cell transplant in children, reached phase 3 in Europe, and later GoCAR-T products entered early trials before the company ceased operations in 2023. Its trials remain on ClinicalTrials.gov under Bellicum as lead sponsor.
