Idera was a Cambridge biotech whose injected TLR9 agonist tilsotolimod, given into tumours with ipilimumab, failed a phase 3 trial in anti-PD-1-refractory melanoma in 2021.
Overview
Idera Pharmaceuticals, founded in 1989 and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, developed oligonucleotide Toll-like receptor agonists. Its intratumoural TLR9 agonist tilsotolimod was tested with ipilimumab in the phase 3 ILLUMINATE-301 trial in melanoma that had progressed on anti-PD-1 therapy and did not improve response or survival. The company merged with Aceragen in 2022 and later wound down. Its trials remain on ClinicalTrials.gov under Idera as lead sponsor.
