Lumina Pharmaceuticals makes radioactive tracers and treatments that stick to fibrin, a mesh-like protein found around solid tumours but not in healthy tissue. Its scanning agent, CM500, is being tested in people to see how well it shows up tumours on PET scans.
Lumina Pharmaceuticals, the trade name of Collagen Medical, based in Boston, Massachusetts, is a clinical-stage radiopharmaceutical company co-founded by chairman Gregory Sorensen and Peter Caravan and led by chief executive Cara Ferreira. Its theranostic platform attaches a diagnostic or therapeutic isotope to a cyclic peptide that binds fibrin in the extracellular matrix of solid tumours. The lead agent CM500, labelled with gallium-68 or copper-64 for PET imaging, is the diagnostic half of a planned fibrin-targeted theranostic pair and builds on an earlier fibrin-binding PET agent, [68Ga]FBP8; the FDA cleared its IND in December 2025. An early phase 1 study evaluates the distribution of [64Cu]CM500 and [68Ga]CM500 in healthy volunteers and in patients with bladder cancer, glioma or glioblastoma, breast cancer and colorectal cancer. The company also has clinical-stage PET agents for fibrosis and blood clots outside oncology. Its first registered cancer trial, NCT07781852, was posted on ClinicalTrials.gov in August 2026. In September 2024 the National Cancer Institute awarded it a USD 2 million SBIR Phase II Fast Track grant (R44CA275590) for a fibrin-targeted theranostic approach to cancers such as gastric cancer.
