Monopar Therapeutics
Monopar is a Chicago-area biotech that took the mucositis drug validive into a phase 3 trial in head and neck cancer, which failed in 2023, and now develops radiopharmaceuticals against the uPAR protein.
Overview
Monopar Therapeutics, based in the Chicago area, developed validive (clonidine mucobuccal tablet) to prevent severe oral mucositis in patients having chemoradiotherapy for oropharyngeal cancer; the phase 3 VOICE trial did not meet its endpoint in 2023. The company has since focused on MNPR-101, an antibody against the urokinase receptor uPAR, as an imaging agent and radiotherapeutic, and on a Wilson disease programme. Its trials are registered on ClinicalTrials.gov under Monopar as lead sponsor.
