Labcorp's blood tests for leftover cancer: a whole-genome version for stage III colon cancer and a personalised-panel version for early breast and lung cancer.
Labcorp launched Plasma Detect in April 2024 for research use, as a tumour-informed whole-genome MRD test validated in early-stage colon cancer, and made it available for clinical use on 23 April 2025 in stage III colon cancer, initially through an early experience programme, with a stated limit of detection (LOD95) of 0.005%. On 13 January 2026 it made the whole-genome test, now Plasma Detect Genome, available nationwide for stage III colon cancer and added Plasma Detect ID, a whole-exome-guided personalised panel for stage I-III breast cancer and stage I-IIIA non-small cell lung cancer. Labcorp bought selected assets of Invitae on 5 August 2024, and Plasma Detect ID is listed in Invitae's test catalogue with the same 18-to-50-variant exome design as Invitae's Personalized Cancer Monitoring assay (Molecular Diagnosis & Therapy 2023). The tests have not been cleared or approved by the FDA.
Two tumour-informed designs. Plasma Detect Genome uses whole-genome sequencing of the tumour and does not need a bespoke panel to be manufactured for each patient. Plasma Detect ID uses exome sequencing of tumour and blood to design a patient-specific panel of 18 to 50 variants.
