A small patient-led US charity for angiosarcoma, a rare cancer of blood and lymph vessel linings: it funds angiosarcoma research, shares an open patient dataset and helps patients reach experienced sarcoma centres.
Angiosarcoma Awareness describes itself on its home page as offering patient-driven research and resources for the angiosarcoma community: it supports patients, funds targeted research and shares open data. The same page says it was founded by Lauren Ryan and Corrie Painter, both of whom had primary angiosarcoma of the breast, and that it continues in Lauren Ryan's honour after her death in June 2014. Its stated method is to identify laboratories doing angiosarcoma research and raise money for their work. For patients it lists a support group, help finding experienced sarcoma centres, clinical trial guidance and financial support for second opinions; for researchers, open molecular datasets (the page counts 274 patients in its open dataset), published studies and a grant history. The IRS lists it as a 501(c)(3) public charity at a Portland, Maine, post office box, with tax exemption from December 2011.
