An all-volunteer US group of leiomyosarcoma patients and caregivers that runs support groups, a patient registry and webinars, and funds leiomyosarcoma research.
The Leiomyosarcoma Support & Direct Research Foundation (LMSDR) says it is an all-volunteer group of patients and caregivers, active since 2006, that supports others and helps researchers find treatments; its home page counts more than 5,300 survivors and caregivers in its community. Its about page says it has raised and granted more than $3.5 million for leiomyosarcoma research since 2006, collected more than 500 tumour blocks and histories for a Stanford tissue bank between 2006 and 2017, and since 2017 has worked with the Rare Cancer Research Foundation's cell line project, carried out at the Broad Institute, to send live tissue for new leiomyosarcoma cell lines. The same page lists a leiomyosarcoma registry launched in 2015 with the Coordination of Rare Diseases at Sanford, patient conferences since 2013, webinars, Leiomyosarcoma Awareness Day on 15 July, and Catalyst Awards co-sponsored with SARC in 2023 and 2024. Its disclosures page gives employer identification number 87-0763851, which the IRS lists as LMSarcoma Direct Research Foundation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a 501(c)(3) ruling dated March 2022, later than the 2006 start the site states.
