Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University

aka Ruijin Hospital, 瑞金医院, Shanghai Institute of Hematology

The hospital where all-trans retinoic acid and arsenic cured acute promyelocytic leukaemia, and still China's leading haematology centre.

Ruijin Hospital dates to 1907 and is home to the Shanghai Institute of Hematology, where Zhen-Yi Wang and Zhu Chen established differentiation therapy of acute promyelocytic leukaemia with all-trans retinoic acid and then arsenic trioxide, turning a lethal leukaemia into one of the most curable. The institute remains a global reference for APL, AML genomics and lymphoma, and hosts national CAR-T and haematopoietic transplant programmes. Ruijin is also a major centre for gastric cancer surgery, pancreatic surgery, endocrine tumours and burns, and runs one of Shanghai's proton therapy projects.
