Whole-body MRI
Whole-body MRI is an MRI of the entire body without radiation, used to find spread in myeloma and to screen people with high inherited cancer risk.
Standard in multiple myeloma (IMWG) and for surveillance in Li-Fraumeni syndrome. Being evaluated for metastatic prostate and breast cancer response assessment (MET-RADS). Commercial 'full-body scan' services are controversial for average-risk people because of incidental findings.
How it works
Multi-station MRI with diffusion-weighted imaging stitched into a whole-body view.
- No radiation, so repeatable
- Bone marrow sensitivity
- Long scan
- Incidental findings in screening use
