PACAB-002 is an experimental nanoparticle form of the chemotherapy cabazitaxel from NaDeNo Nanoscience, given into the abdomen after ovarian cancer surgery to clear small deposits left behind. Its first trial in people has been approved, and it has orphan status in the European Union for ovarian cancer.
PACAB-002 is NaDeNo Nanoscience's lead candidate: cabazitaxel encapsulated without chemical modification in a biodegradable polymer matrix, designed for intraperitoneal treatment of peritoneal micrometastases in ovarian cancer. The company reports that in a preclinical ovarian cancer model a single intraperitoneal dose doubled median survival compared with free drug at the same dose. On 28 July 2026 the EMA granted orphan designation EU/3/26/3258 to cabazitaxel for the treatment of ovarian cancer, sponsored by Nadeno Nanoscience AS, and the company identifies PACAB-002 as the designated product. The clinical trial application for a phase 1 first-in-human trial, led at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, was approved in October 2026.
Cabazitaxel, a second-generation taxane that stops cancer cells dividing by stabilising microtubules, encapsulated in biodegradable polymer nanoparticles whose surface chemistry favours tumour accumulation and retention in the peritoneal cavity, as the developer describes it.
