A European Union project, coordinated by the University of Tartu, that is building a shared system so cancer researchers in different countries can analyse each other's data without moving it, starting with childhood, lymphoid, pancreatic, ovarian, lung and prostate cancers.
UNCAN-CONNECT (CORDIS project 101215206, topic HORIZON-MISS-2024-CANCER-01-01, "Use cases for the UNCAN.eu research data platform") runs from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2030 with a total cost of about EUR 29.9 million, all of it EU contribution, coordinated by Tartu Ülikool (University of Tartu). Its objective is a decentralised collaborative network, an open-source "federation of federations" platform with a governance, compliance and operational framework based on the UNCAN blueprint, to give researchers, SMEs and innovators access to cancer data across member states despite differing GDPR interpretations, ethical and legal rules and technical interoperability problems. It is developed through use cases in six cancer types (paediatric, lymphoid malignancies, pancreatic, ovarian, lung and prostate) and builds on European research infrastructures and initiatives including BBMRI, EOSC4CANCER, CanSERV and EUCAIM.
