Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO)

The Institut Català d'Oncologia was created by the Government of Catalonia in 1995 as a public monographic cancer institute. It operates cancer centres on the campuses of the Bellvitge (L'Hospitalet de Llobregat), Germans Trias i Pujol (Badalona) and Josep Trueta (Girona) hospitals, delivering medical oncology, radiation oncology, haematology and cancer prevention for a large share of the Catalan population. Its research is carried out with IDIBELL, IGTP and IDIBGI, with recognised programmes in HPV and cancer epidemiology, hereditary cancer, haematological malignancies and radiotherapy. The ICO is accredited by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes as a Comprehensive Cancer Centre and coordinates Catalonia's cancer plan.
