Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center

aka IU Simon Cancer Center

Home of Lawrence Einhorn's cisplatin regimen that turned testicular cancer into a curable disease, and Indiana's NCI comprehensive centre.

NCI-designated in 1999 and comprehensive since 2019, IU Simon is Indiana's only NCI comprehensive centre. In 1974 Lawrence Einhorn combined cisplatin with vinblastine and bleomycin, raising cure rates in disseminated testicular cancer from a minority to the large majority of patients, one of the great successes of chemotherapy; the centre remains an international referral site for germ cell tumours. Hal Broxmeyer's work on cord blood underpinned cord blood transplantation. Current programmes include the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research, precision genomics for triple-negative breast cancer and a growing early-phase unit.
