Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, UC Irvine
Orange County's NCI comprehensive cancer centre, pairing UCI Health clinical care with the Beckman Laser Institute's optical imaging science.
NCI-designated since 1994, the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only NCI comprehensive centre in Orange County. Its distinctive research asset is UCI's Beckman Laser Institute, a birthplace of biomedical optics and optical imaging of tissue, alongside programmes in cancer systems biology, GI and head and neck cancers, and haematologic malignancies. UCI Health opened a new Irvine medical campus in the mid-2020s, expanding cancer care alongside the Orange hospital. Patients can access NCI cooperative group and investigator-initiated trials.
