Willemien J. van Driel
Led OVHIPEC-1, the trial that showed heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy at surgery extends survival in ovarian cancer.
Overview
Willemien van Driel was principal investigator of OVHIPEC-1, the Dutch randomised trial showing that adding hyperthermic intraperitoneal cisplatin to interval cytoreductive surgery improves recurrence-free and overall survival in stage III ovarian cancer, the first level-one evidence for HIPEC in the disease. She leads OVHIPEC-2 in the primary surgery setting.
