Cancer Council Australia
Australia's federated cancer charity, which funds research, writes national clinical guidelines and runs the prevention campaigns behind Australia's falling smoking and melanoma rates.
Cancer Council Australia is the national body of the eight state and territory Cancer Councils, which together are the largest non-government funder of cancer research in Australia. It publishes national clinical practice guidelines (including colorectal, melanoma and lung cancer), runs the Optimal Care Pathways with governments, and leads prevention campaigns on tobacco, sun protection (SunSmart), alcohol and screening participation. Cancer Councils also fund cooperative groups and provide the 13 11 20 information and support line. Its policy work has shaped plain packaging and the national bowel and cervical screening programmes.
