Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center

aka Albert Einstein Cancer Center

The Bronx's NCI comprehensive cancer centre, where Joseph Sparano ran TAILORx, the trial that let most women with early HR-positive breast cancer skip chemotherapy.

The Albert Einstein Cancer Center has been NCI-designated since 1972 and, as Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, now holds comprehensive status while serving one of the poorest urban counties in the United States. Joseph Sparano chaired TAILORx from here for ECOG-ACRIN, showing that a mid-range Oncotype DX recurrence score identifies women who do not need adjuvant chemotherapy. John Condeelis's intravital imaging revealed the TMEM 'doorways' through which breast cancer cells enter the bloodstream; Ulrich Steidl and Amit Verma lead work on MDS and leukaemia stem cells. Director Edward Chu is a GI oncologist and cancer pharmacologist.
