Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Miami
South Florida's NCI-designated cancer centre, serving a largely Hispanic catchment, with strengths in myeloma, myeloid malignancies and proton therapy.
NCI-designated in 2019, Sylvester is the University of Miami's cancer centre and the only NCI-designated centre in South Florida, with a catchment that is majority Hispanic and a gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America. Director Stephen Nimer is a leukaemia and epigenetics researcher; Ola Landgren's myeloma programme focuses on MRD-driven treatment strategies. The Dwoskin Proton Therapy Center added proton beam therapy to the region, and Sylvester's Firefighter Cancer Initiative and Game Changer mobile screening vehicles are notable community programmes. It runs a substantial phase 1 unit.
