VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center
Richmond's NCI comprehensive cancer centre, led by Robert Winn and known for community-engaged research on cancer health equity.
NCI-designated since 1975 and now a comprehensive centre, VCU Massey serves central and southern Virginia from Richmond. Under director Robert Winn it has made community-engaged research and health equity its organising principle, pairing population science across a catchment that includes rural Southside Virginia with basic research in haematologic malignancies and cancer cell signalling led by Steven Grant and Paul Dent. Massey runs VCU Health's cancer service line, a phase 1 programme and NCI cooperative group trials, and the 'Facts & Faith Fridays' partnership with Black churches became a national model for outreach.
