University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center
New Mexico's only cancer centre, an NCI comprehensive centre serving a majority-minority state and home of the state-wide HPV Pap Registry.
NCI-designated in 2005 and comprehensive since 2015, the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only cancer centre in New Mexico, a state with large Hispanic and Native American populations and unusual exposures such as uranium mining. Cosette Wheeler's New Mexico HPV Pap Registry is the only US state-wide cervical screening registry and has informed national HPV testing policy. Cheryl Willman, now Mayo's cancer centre director, led the centre for two decades while defining Philadelphia-like acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. The UNM Center for Molecular Discovery pioneered high-throughput flow cytometry for drug screening.
