Ospedale San Raffaele is a private IRCCS research hospital with its own university and a strong gene and cell therapy tradition through the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy. Fabio Ciceri's haematology and transplant unit and Chiara Bonini's experimental haematology laboratory developed suicide-gene-modified donor lymphocytes and TCR-edited T cells, Luca Gianni's breast oncology programme led the NeoSphere trial of dual HER2 blockade with pertuzumab and trastuzumab, and Massimo Falconi's pancreatic surgery unit is among Europe's highest-volume centres. The hospital runs neuro-oncology, urology, radiotherapy and a phase 1 unit, and pathology under Claudio Doglioni supports genomics-driven trials.
