University Cancer Center Frankfurt (UCT)
Frankfurt's university cancer centre, heir to Paul Ehrlich's 'magic bullet' institute, with strengths in leukaemia, neuro-oncology and cell therapy.
The UCT was founded in 2008 at Universitätsklinikum Frankfurt and is a German Cancer Aid Oncology Center of Excellence and DKTK partner site; since 2020 it forms UCT Frankfurt-Marburg with the University Hospital Marburg. Frankfurt's Georg-Speyer-Haus, where Paul Ehrlich developed Salvarsan and the concept of targeted 'magic bullets' that underpins today's antibody-drug conjugates, is now an institute for tumour biology of the Goethe University, and the Frankfurt Cancer Institute unites basic and clinical groups. Clinical strengths include acute leukaemia and the German AML study group activities, CAR-T and stem cell transplantation, neuro-oncology and paediatric oncology. Marburg's pathology under Carsten Denkert brings the German Breast Group's translational research into the alliance.
