Paula Ghaneh is Professor of Surgery in the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine at the University of Liverpool (Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology). She was first author of ESPAC5 (Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology 2023), the four-arm phase 2 trial that compared immediate surgery with short-course neoadjuvant gemcitabine plus capecitabine, FOLFIRINOX or chemoradiotherapy in borderline resectable pancreatic cancer, and a co-author of ESPAC-3 (JAMA 2010) and ESPAC-4 (Lancet 2017), the Liverpool-led adjuvant trials whose result, gemcitabine plus capecitabine after resection, is NICE NG85's adjuvant recommendation.
